- German Chancellor Merkel to arrive in Lithuania
President Dalia Grybauskaite met with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in the margins of the European Council, the presidential press service reports.
President Grybauskaite and Chancellor Merkel discussed the main issues on the agenda of the meeting of the European Council, problems of the Baltic Sea region, bilateral relations, and future cooperation prospects between Lithuania and Germany.
During their bilateral meeting, Angela Merkel confirmed her participation in the summit of the Council of the Baltic Sea States scheduled for next June in Vilnius.
President Grybauskaite is continuing her working visit to Brussels where she is attending the European Council meeting. EU leaders are discussing the strategy proposed by the European Commission for economic and social growth until 2020.
Among the other issues of the agenda are efforts of the EU and member states to tackle the economic crisis, preparations for the forthcoming G-20 meeting, and the follow-up to the Copenhagen Climate Conference.Unauthorised reproduction and distribution prohibited. All rights reserved. ELTA.
