A new musical composition by J. Janulytė to be performed in prestigious European festivals

Next year will see the performance of the music of a Lithuanian composer in one of the most lauded European music festivals – the “Réseau Varèse”, a pan-European network for the creation and promotion of new music, which has recently included an approved hour-long interdisciplinary musical composition (currently in progress) by Justė Janulytė “Sandglasses” into its programme besides other four new projects.

The decision was made at the general assembly of the “Réseau Varèse” during the “Wien Modern” contemporary music festival Vienna (Austria) that was held on 5-7 November 2009.

Composer J. Janušytė, currently living in Vilnius and Milan (Italy), says that she continues to explore transmutations from visual to acoustic phenomena by producing a musical metaphor of several sandglasses measuring different timelines. The “Sandglasses” is a subtle and exquisite meditation on the flow of time for performers, electric musical instruments, light, paper and video installations.

An hour-long composition is due out by the autumn next year. This opus is the first Lithuanian project to be included in the “Réseau Varèse” programme as a whole musical event.
