Direct descendant to the throne of Lithuania, grandson of Mindaugas II, visits Lithuania

Direct descendant to the throne of Lithuania, grandson of Mindaugas II, reserve military officer and forestry officer Duke Inigo von Urach has made a symbolic visit to Lithuania.

At the beginning of the 20th c. Prince Wilhelm von Urach, Count of Württemberg – the grandfather of Inigo von Urach – was invited to become the second king of Lithuania. In 1918 the Council of Lithuania elected Wilhelm Count of Württemberg King of Lithuania, who took the name Mindaugas II. He reigned for approximately 100 days; however, later on the Council of Lithuania reversed its decision and Mindaugas II did not have a chance to bring from Württemberg the draft Constitution of the Kingdom of Lithuania.

Grandson of Mindaugas II, Duke Inigo von Urach told the “Lietuvos rytas” television that if he was honoured with a proposal to assume the throne of Lithuania, he would not refuse it. “If I were offered the post, I would be ready for it”.

Inigo von Urach liked Lithuania, and he had ideas on measures to make life in this country better. “I have been thinking of what I could do; meanwhile I have found my grandfather’s notes and documents in the archives, which demonstrated that my ideas were similar to his. However, I have new ideas with regard to the contemporary issues, such as pollution and renewable energy sources”, said the Duke.
