The Lithuanian is the official state language in Lithuania. It is the most conservative living Indo-European language. Lithuanian is a Baltic language, one of the two Baltic languages that are currently in use (the other one is Latvian). The Lithuanian language is a mother tongue to more than 80% of residents of Lithuania.

The National State Language Commission oversees the compliance with the Law on the State Language exercised by governmental and municipal institutions as well as other public bodies, companies and organisations in Lithuania.
